Tate to Play In Spain
MADRID – Former University at Albany basketball star Imani Tate has signed a contract to play professionally in Spain with CB Alcobendas, the team announced Sunday.
Alcobendas played in Spain’s Women’s League 2 and went 20-5 last year in the regular season that culminated in a run to the league semifinals, where they fell to Sant Adria. Sant Adria won League 2 last year and will play in the top-tier LFB this season, where another former UAlbany basketball star, Shereesha Richards, will play for her new team, AE Sedis.
Tate, who played this summer for the U.S. Virgin Islands national team, will start playing games with Alcobendas in late September. Alcobendas plays its home games in Madrid, and plays in Group B in League 2 based on geography. The top two teams at the end of the league playoffs are promoted to LFB for the following season.
Tate left UAlbany after winning four America East titles and cementing her place in the program record books ranking second all-time in points scored, fifth in steals, and sixth in assists.
