Women's Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   08-21-2017

ALBANY, N.Y. – Coming off a sixth-consecutive America East championship, the University at Albany women’s basketball program has released its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The Great Danes will play 13 games before America East play begins, including a mid-December trip to Puerto Rico for the San Juan tournament. Six of the Danes’ 13 opponents hail from New York, and six games feature rematches from last season.

Last season, UAlbany finished second in the America East regular season before winning its unprecedented sixth-consecutive America East title and earning its sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.

UAlbany will open against the lone NCAA tournament participant on the schedule with a November 10 visit to Maryland. The Terrapins, who won their third-straight Big Ten title in 2017, were the three-seed in UAlbany’s Bridgeport Regional last season, advancing to the Sweet 16 before losing to 10-seed Oregon. Head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee, now in her second season at UAlbany, was an assistant coach at Maryland from 2003-2007, during which time the Terrapins won one national title.

A visit to Monmouth on November 16 precedes the Great Danes’ home opener on November 19 against Fordham, followed by a second-consecutive home game against Wagner on November 22.

A quick road trip to Central Connecticut State on November 27 precedes the third home game of the season against St. John’s on November 30. Afterwards, the Great Danes will play three consecutive games on the road. First, UAlbany will visit Holy Cross on December 3, followed by a trip to Manhattan on December 6. The three-game road trip will conclude with a crosstown trip to the Times Union Center to face local rival Siena on December 9.

UAlbany will have a long layover before the next game on the schedule, when St. Bonaventure comes to the SEFCU Arena on December 17. The very next day, the team will depart for Puerto Rico for the San Juan Tournament, which will feature games against Southern Illinois on December 19 and Northern Illinois on December 21.

After the holiday break, the Great Danes will return to action for one final non-conference home game on December 30 against Dartmouth.

2017-18 UAlbany women’s basketball season tickets are currently on sale for just $50.  This year’s home slate consists of 13 games, including five non-conference and a challenging America East schedule.  Single game tickets will be available to the public starting on October 16.  Interested parties may visit or call at (518) 442-DANE.
