UAlbany Men's Basketball Back at SEFCU to Play Canisius
ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany men’s basketball team has returned to the SEFCU Arena to take on in-state foe Canisius on Saturday, December 16th at 7 p.m. in the next chapter of an America East team versus a MAAC opponent.
The game will be broadcast online on AE on ESPN3, with Rodger Wyland and Jeremy Friel on the call. Brian Mariano will be on the radio call on 104.5 the Team.

UAlbany’s last three games were part of the Gotham Classic. UAlbany’s next contest, at Louisville, will finish the team’s role in the tournament.
America East representative UAlbany had its four-game win streak end on Tuesday with a 67-58 road defeat vs. Memphis, entering at 10-2 overall. Canisius, out of the MAAC, had its second consecutive loss last Saturday in a 65-58 loss at Evansville, holding a 4-6 overall record.
The series was revived last year for the first meeting since 2008. On December 12th, 2016, Canisius defeated UAlbany 77-64 in Buffalo to lead the all-time series 2-1. This is the first game between the two in Albany since December 13, 2008, a 74-46 victory for UAlbany.
The Great Danes are 2-1 against MAAC teams this year, the last the 74-69 Albany Cup victory at Siena. This is Canisius’s only game vs. an America East opponent this season.

UAlbany is also the top-ranked mid-major team in the state of New York and in the America East. UAlbany has stood in the top-10 each of the past three weeks.
BOX OUT!: Through 12 games, UAlbany has outrebounded its opponents in all contests, standing with the best rebounding margin in the America East at +10.0. UAlbany and Auburn are the only teams to outrebound their opponents in all games to begin the year. Second in the league is New Hampshire at +5.3. Greig Stire (7.8) and Travis Charles (5.5) stand in the top-11 in the America East in rebounding.
THE WALKING BUCKET: Nicknamed the “Walking Bucket” by head coach Will Brown after the win over Colgate, Travis Charles has earned double digit points in 10 games this season, averaging 14.2 points per contest and shooting 61.1% from the field. He is also averaging 5.5 boards a contest.
STREAKS: Greig Stire has earned at least one board in each of the past 83 games, including a single game record 15 rebounds at Hartford on January 22nd, 2017.
Joe Cremo has scored points in each of his last 78 games going back to Nov. 19, 2015. Cremo has also dished out at least one assist in each of the past 42 games. David Nichols, scoring in each game all of 2016-17, is on a 49-game scoring streak. Stire has scored in 37 consecutive games while Travis Charles has a 32-game scoring streak.
CAPITAL DISTRICT LOCALS: Three players local to the Capital District have remained home to suit up for the Great Danes this season.
From nearby Scotia comes junior Joe Cremo, a three-time Section II Class A champion at Scotia-Glenville, who earned 2015-16 America East Rookie of the Year. Senior forward Greig Stire has started the last two years in the frontcourt, taking Christian Brothers Academy in Albany to the 2012 Section II title. At Albany Academy, sophomore Nick Fruscio took his team to a pair of Federation state titles, including as a senior team captain.
WELCOME TO NEW YORK: UAlbany will play ten regular season games against teams from the Empire State, including seven at home. UAlbany will take on Iona, Oneonta, Colgate, Columbia, Siena, Canisius, Stony Brook (twice) and Binghamton (twice). This season, UAlbany is 5-0 against in-state opponents.
SCOUTING CANISIUS: Canisius was picked to finish ninth in the MAAC preseason poll. Sophomore guard Isaiah Reese is the team’s leading scorer, shooting 50.9% and averaging 16.5 points, 4.2 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Senior forward Jermaine Crumpton earned First Team All-MAAC preseason honors, shooting 50% from 15.1 points and 4.9 rebounds a contest.
