Men's basketball sets 2018-19 non-conference schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   08-09-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s basketball team has announced its non-conference schedule for the 2018-19 campaign, completing the full slate for the upcoming season.

The non-conference schedule includes six home games at SEFCU Arena. With eight America East home contests also scheduled, the Great Danes will play 14 total home games in the 2018-19 season.

“I am excited about the upcoming season and the challenges that the non-conference schedule will present,” said UAlbany head coach Will Brown. “Several of the programs on our schedule will compete for conference championships and postseason appearances. The highlight of our schedule is our trip to Ireland to participate in the Belfast Classic sponsored by the Basketball Hall of Fame.  I expect our non-conference schedule to help our team get better and prepare us for the America East Conference season.”

Catch every home game including the annual Big Purple Growl from the same great seats! Men’s basketball tickets are available starting at $150. Be part of the Great Dane family by purchasing your season tickets. Click here for season tickets.

UAlbany is set to play a 15-game non-conference schedule, including participating in the second annual Belfast Classic, with two games in Northern Ireland.  The team will play three 2018 NCAA Tournament participants, with 13 opponents having double-digit wins last year.  The schedule also has a pair of road games against teams coached by UAlbany alumni: Yale (James Jones, Class of '86) and Kent State (Rob Senderoff, Class of '95).

UAlbany’s home opener will be on Tuesday, Nov. 6, against Oneonta.  The Purple & Gold also welcome to SEFCU Arena this season Boston University, Holy Cross, Monmouth, Dartmouth and Manhattan.

The Great Danes will not play the annual Albany Cup game against Siena College this season. The game had been played every season since 2001, but only once at SEFCU Arena, in 2016, in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,538 spectators.

“While we fully understand the importance of the Albany Cup to the community, we also believe that in fairness to our student-athletes, campus, alumni and fans that this series, like virtually every other college basketball rivalry series, should be played on each team’s home court,” said UAlbany Director of Athletics, Mark Benson. “We will continue to have a dialogue with Siena in hopes of reaching a more equitable agreement.”

Times for all games will be announced at a later date.
