UAlbany Sports Information   03-07-2018

UPDATE: The University at Albany baseball team's trip to Seattle has been delayed by one day due to inclement weather.  The Great Danes will now play three games at Seattle University instead of four, with a double-header on Saturday, March 10 followed by a single game on Sunday, March 11.  The original story follows.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Fresh of their series win in which they took two of three games at Towson, the University at Albany baseball team will embark on its longest road trip of the 2018 regular season this weekend when they head to the West Coast to play four games against Seattle University.

UAlbany (3-3) took the first two games against the Tigers last weekend, winning the first game 15-3 and the second 2-0.  The first game was actually suspended for darkness in the top of the eighth inning with UAlbany leading 14-2, and was concluded the following morning before the scheduled second game.  In the final game of the series, UAlbany just missed out on the series sweep, falling to the Tigers 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

For his efforts in the series, freshman first baseman Ryan Hernandez earned the America East Rookie of the Week award, the first weekly honor for a Great Dane this season.  Hernandez batted .363 over the three games, scoring five runs.

Seattle last played crosstown rival Washington, defeating the Huskies 8-3.  Previously, the Redhawks visited Florida for the Irish Classic over the weekend, falling 14-9 to Seton Hall but defeating both Youngstown State and Notre Dame.

Following the series against Seattle the Great Danes will return to the East Coast to visit Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, March 13, before visiting Hofstra for four games in two days next weekend.
