NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Former University at Albany assistant baseball coach Paul Panik has accepted the head coaching position at Iona College, the Gaels announced Monday.

“We want to thank Paul for his many contributions to our program,” said head coach Jon Mueller. “We wish him the best moving forward in his new job as head baseball coach at Iona.”

Panik arrived at UAlbany prior to the 2018 season after spending the 2017 season as Iona’s hitting coach. There, he helped lead the Gaels to their first MAAC Tournament appearance since 2000, advancing all the way to the title game.

In his one season at UAlbany, Panik served as pitching coach, helping UAlbany collect 20 wins and a third consecutive appearance in the America East Tournament. He coached two America East All-Conference pitchers in Dominic Savino and John Clayton. Under Panik’s guidance, Savino led the America East with eight victories in 2018, successfully transitioning from the bullpen to a starting role.

Panik takes over an Iona team that went 16-31 in 2018.
