UAlbany Sports Information   12-01-2017

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University at Albany men’s soccer team had three players from the 2017 roster named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region team, the organization announced Friday.  The Great Danes secured one selection to the All-East First Team and two to the All-East Second Team.

Daniel Krutzen, a defender from Lanaken, Belguim, was the Danes’ lone First Team selection.  Krutzen ranked third on the team in points with 15 and led the team and the America East with seven assists.  He started all but two games for the Great Danes on the season, and was named America East tournament Most Outstanding Player and All-Conference First Team.

Two additional America East players joined Krutzen on the All-East First Team: Jakov Basic from UMass Lowell and Robin Schmidt from New Hampshire.

Carlos Clark, a midfielder from Teaneck, N.J., earned his first All-East selection, being named to the Second Team.  He ranked fourth on the team with 12 points, and third in both goals and assists with four each.  During the season, Clark was named to the All-Conference Second Team and was also an All-Tournament selection.

Afonso Pinheiro, a forward from São Paulo, Brazil, was named All-East for the third straight year, and Second Team for the second consecutive year.  He ranked second on the team with seven goals and 18 points on the season, and was named All-Conference First Team.

In addition to Clark and Pinheiro, there were four America East representatives on the All-East Second Team.  New Hampshire’s Willis Griffith and Otto Sahlen were selected, as was UMass Lowell’s Ivan Blaskic and Vermont’s Leandro Alves.

UAlbany did not have any All-East Third Team selections, though the America East did have five Third Team selections.

The three selections match the Great Danes’ total from last season when Pinheiro, Keith Traut, and Bernardo Mattos garnered All-Region honors.
