UAlbany Sports Information   02-15-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program and head coach Trevor Gorman have announced the addition of Rich Nassif as assistant coach. Nassif will join a team that has won each of the last two America East championships and has won a game each of the last two seasons in the NCAA tournament.

“Rich is a fantastic addition to our UAlbany program,” said Gorman. “He’s had success as a player, and a coach, at the highest level of Division 1 soccer. His experience, energy, and ideas will be of great value to all members of UAlbany soccer. We’re excited to welcome Rich and his family to the Great Dane family.”

Nassif played four years at Northwestern University as a goalkeeper, appearing in two NCAA tournaments and advancing as far as the Elite Eight. Following his graduation, he spent two years as the Director of Operations for the Wildcats before assuming an assistant coaching position. Nassif landed his first head coaching position at Benedictine University in 2012. After four years at the helm of the Eagles, Nassif returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The 2017 Great Danes won a Division 1-era program record 14 games en route to a 1-0, double-overtime victory over UMass Lowell to clinch their second straight America East title. UAlbany met Maryland in the first round of the NCAA tournament, dispatching the Terrapins in the eighth round of penalty kicks, before falling at Western Michigan in the second round.
