#21 Field Hockey to Face UNH in America East Semis

LOWELL, Mass.— The University at Albany prepares to take on New Hampshire in the America East Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, November 4th at 12 p.m. in UMass Lowell. On Thursday, Nov. 2nd  the Great Danes took down UC Davis 5-0 to advance to the semis, while UNH earned their spot with a 3-2 overtime win against Cal on Friday, Nov. 3rd.

Semifinals vs. New Hampshire: November 4th @ 12 p.m. in UMass Lowell
Winner advances to championship: November 5th @ 1 p.m. in UMass Lowell

UAlbany enters the America East semifinals with an overall season record of 12-6. Three Great Danes were selected as All-Conference selections, Dana Bozek, Melissa Nealon, and Frederike Helmke. Helmke was also honored as the 2017 America East Defender of the Year, while the 2017 Coaching Staff of the Year was presented to the Great Dane coaching staff as well. UAlbany easily handled UC Davis in the quarterfinals with two goals from freshman Ghislaine Beerkens. The Great Danes dominated the entire game holding the majority of possession outshooting the Aggies 27-4.

New Hampshire took down California in overtime 3-2 to earn their place in the semifinals. The Wildcats entered the America East Tournament as the #3 seed out of the East Division holding an 8-11 overall record and a 4-4 conference record. New Hampshire is second in the conference averaging 9.37 shots on goal per game, as well as 295 total shots.
Player to Watch: Gianna Bensaia scored two of the three goals against California in the quarterfinals, including the overtime game-winning goal. The senior midfielder is 3rd on the team with 21 points. This season Bensaia was named to the 2017 America East East Division All-Conference team. Additionally, Bensaia was selected to play in the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game.
This Season vs. UAlbany: The Great Danes topped New Hampshire in both regular season matchups this season. The first meeting was on September 16th when the Great Danes won 4-0. Camryn Dias scored two of the four goals and was honored as the America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Additionally Katie MacCallum was honored as the America East Rookie of the Week for her goal and assist during play.
The second meeting was on Friday, October 27th in New Hampshire. The Great Danes swept New Hampshire 4-2 with two goals from Ghislaine Beerkens. UAlbany scored two goals per half and outshot the Wildcats 19-7. The New Hampshire goals came from Tiana Morin and Bloem Van den Brekel.
All-time Record: In the record books, the Great Danes lead the series 14-10.
