UAlbany Dominates In Double-Header At Hartford

Short Story: The UAlbany softball team defeated Hartford back-to-back on April 14th to close out the three game series.

The first game started out at high speed for the Great Danes as they were able to score five runs in the first inning. With bases loaded, Donna Conrad hit a two-run RBI-single to left field that brought Chelsea Henige and Sarah Petzold around to score. Kelly Barkevich then reached on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second on the play, bringing Katie Falotico, who was on second base, around to score. Amelia Ely hit a two-run RBI-single to center field, giving the Great Danes a five-run advantage.

The second inning began with McKenzie Bump hitting a single to left field and then advancing to third on the play. Chelsea Henige then hit an RBI-double to right center field to bring McKenzie Bump home. Katie Falotico reached on an error by the pitcher and then advanced to second, which brought Henige around to score.

In the third inning, Sarah Petzold hit a home run that also brought Henige, who was on first base, around to score for the Great Danes. UAlbany scored five runs in the third inning, while Hartford only scored one.

Sarah Petzold hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, contributing four runs to the total seven that were scored in the fourth inning. The game ended in the fifth inning with UAlbany ahead by eighteen runs. The final score of the first game was 19-1.

The second game started out slow for both teams as the game remained scoreless until the third inning when Hartford scored three runs. UAlbany retaliated in the fifth inning when Kelly Spear hit a three-run RBI-double to right field. The Great Danes scored an additional run in the sixth inning. The final score of the second game was 4-3.
