Short Story: Shaye Swiatek’s RBI brought Sarah Petzold in for a run in the second game, but the University at Albany fell to Nicholls and Kent State on Saturday.

Despite an RBI from Shaye Swiatek in the second game, the University at Albany softball team fell to both Nicholls and Kent State, 0-1 and 1-9 respectively. Both games were played on Saturday in Madeira Beach, Florida.

UAlbany was playing its second and third game of the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational.

The first game of the day against Nicholls started out with energy as Nicholls was able to score one run off of a single to left field that brought a runner on third base to home plate. Although the Great Danes were unable to score a run, Pitcher Devin Durando struck out three batters and held Nicholls off for the rest of the game.

In the second game of the day against Kent State, after falling behind 6-0, Sarah Petzold scored one run for UAlbany off of a hit made by Shaye Swiatek. The bottom of the fifth inning brought three runs for Kent State, ending the game via run-ahead rule.

The Great Danes are coming off of a win in their first game of the tournament where they defeated the University of Rhode Island 5-4.
