GAME 7 RECAP (UAlbany 8 - Maine 2)
"It all started in the circle today and Devin set the tone from the very first inning. We got so many big hits from kids through out the whole lineup. This team has come so far and I couldn't be more proud of them," said head coach Chris Cannata.
Devin Durando pitched a complete game on the mound for the Great Danes striking out five batters. The junior allowed six hits and two runs.
UAlbany started creating runs in the third inning. Kelly Spear started the hits with a shot to the short stop. Then Liz Snow and Donna Conrad loaded bases with a hit-by-pitch and a single. It was Sarah Petzold who forced a major Maine error to score the first two runs of the game.
In the fifth inning, UAlbany's bats came alive once again. Snow was the lead-off batter of the inning and unsurprisingly she was walked to first base. After the first-inning when Snow hit a major double, she did not see strikes again. Next up, Donna Conrad joined Snow on base with a single to third. With two runners on and no outs, Sarah Petzold hit a 2-RBI double into right center. Finally, the third run of the inning came from Kelly Barkevich with a single shot to left field. Danes led Maine 5-0.
Moving into the 6th, Snow earned an easy base once again after getting hit by a pitch for the second time of the day. Then Donna Conrad slammed her first triple of the season down the right field line earning a RBI. With Conrad on third, Chelsea Henige blasted a two-run homer over the fence. UAlbany led the Black Bears 8-0.
UAlbany looked to end the game early with an 8 run lead in the bottom of the 6th, but the Black Bears were not done yet. Maine started off the inning with a double down the left field line. Then, Alyssa Derrick blasted a home run deep into right field to put Maine on the board.
No runs were scored in the 7th making the final score: UAlbany 8, Maine 2.
