UAlbany Men's Basketball Continues Travels at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – The UAlbany men’s basketball team resumes its road travels on Thursday, February 15th with a rematch against America East foe UMass Lowell at 7 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center.

The game will be broadcast online by AE on ESPN3 and will be aired on the radio in the Albany area on 104.5 the Team.

UAlbany is playing its remaining two America East regular season road games this week, starting at UMass Lowell and following at UMBC on Sunday. The Great Danes will finish America East play with two games at home.

UAlbany got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a 69-63 road win over Hartford.  Standing in fourth place in the America East at 7-5, UAlbany is 19-8 overall.  UMass Lowell fell 81-69 at Vermont on Sunday for its second straight loss, holding seventh place in the America East at 3-8 and 9-15 overall.

UAlbany has won the last two meetings against UMass Lowell, including a 70-62 win at home on January 18th.  The Great Danes have won seven of the last eight meetings vs. UMass Lowell to lead the all-time series 12-8 and the DI series 7-2.

--Ride the Trio: Joe Cremo, David Nichols and Travis Charles have double digit points the last four games.
--Stop Jahad: UML’s Jahad Thomas is second in the AE with 20 points a game.
--Get to the Line: UAlbany was 19-22 on free throws last time vs. Lowell.

JUNIOR DUO JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB: With a 30-point performance vs. Holy Cross on November 25th, Joe Cremo surpassed the career 1,000-point mark.  Cremo now stands with 1,370 career points, having averaged 14.4 points per game in his career.

David Nichols joined the 1,000-point club on January 24th with 11 points at Vermont.  His 1,065 career points includes 625 in the 2016-17 year, the second-highest single season in UAlbany history.

Along with Cremo and Nichols, 11 UAlbany players have scored over 1,000 points in the DI era.

NICHOLS NAMED TO LOU HENSON AWARD WATCH LIST: UAlbany junior guard David Nichols has been named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List.  The Lou Henson Award is given each year to the top Division I mid-major player.

WILL BROWN - 279 VICTORIES AT UALBANY: In his 17th season at the helm of the Great Danes, Will Brown has 279 victories with the program, the most amount of wins in America East history with one team.

He is second all-time in victories in America East history, only behind Bill Herrion, who has 334 wins combined at Drexel and New Hampshire.

Brown has five NCAA Tournament appearances as head coach, tied for the most in America East history with Jim Calhoun, who had five with Northeastern.

BOX OUT!: Through 27 games, UAlbany has outrebounded its opponents in 21 contests, standing with the second-best rebounding margin in the America East at +6.4, and 22nd in all of Division I.  First in the league is New Hampshire at +7.2.  Greig Stire (8.2), Travis Charles (5.4) and Alex Foster (4.5) stand in the top-20 in the America East in rebounding.

STREAKS: Greig Stire has earned at least one board in each of the past 98 games, including a single game record 15 rebounds at Hartford on January 22nd, 2017.

Joe Cremo has scored points in each of his last 93 games going back to Nov. 19, 2015, but lost a 52-game assist streak on January 24, 2018.  David Nichols, scoring in each game all of 2016-17, is on a 64-game scoring streak.  Stire has scored in 52 consecutive games while Travis Charles has a 47-game scoring streak.

UALBANY RECEIVING VOTES IN MID-MAJOR POLL: UAlbany is receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 on February 12th, released every Monday.  UAlbany is also the second-placed mid-major team in the state of New York and second from the America East.  UAlbany has stood in the top-10 five weeks this year. 

SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL: UMass Lowell is second in the America East in scoring offense with 75 points per game.  Redshirt senior Jahad Thomas is the team’s leader in nearly every offensive category shooting 51% for 20 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game.  Senior Matt Harris is the main three-point threat at 37%, picking up 12.4 points and 3.2 boards a contest.
