Playing the first of two road games to close the 2017 regular season, the University at Albany men’s soccer team played host Stony Brook to a scoreless, double-overtime tie Sunday night.  It was the Great Danes’ second overtime game and first tie of the season.

UAlbany was outshot narrowly 6-4 in a contentious first half that saw three yellow cards assessed to players.  The Great Dane attack increased the intensity in the second half, outshooting the Seawolves by a margin of 9-3.  Even so, the Danes were unable to find the back of the net.

With four minutes remaining in regulation, UAlbany goalkeeper Danny Vitiello made a charging save on his right side that prevented Stony Brook from taking a 1-0 lead.  Shortly after, Daniel Krutzen ripped an open shot right at the Stony Brook keeper in one of the Danes’ most promising scoring opportunities of the evening.

The Great Danes snapped a six-game losing streak against the Seawolves, who had won each of the last two games 2-1 in overtime.

Next: UAlbany will close the regular season on the road at Binghamton on Wednesday, November 1.
