Men's Soccer Announces 2019 Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program and head coach Trevor Gorman have announced the team’s 2019 schedule. The schedule consists of two exhibition games starting in mid-August followed by a 17-game regular season leading into the 2019 America East Tournament starting in November.
Eight of UAlbany’s 2019 opponents were ranked nationally last season, and four played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Great Danes will play Kentucky, Cincinnati, Marist, Syracuse, Vermont, UMBC, Stony Brook, and Binghamton on the road and will host Providence, Colgate, Quinnipiac, Dartmouth, Hartford, Hofstra, UMass Lowell, Cornell, and New Hampshire.
“We feel this is an incredibly challenging schedule,” said Gorman. “We want to play quality teams week in and week out and look forward to the opportunity this fall. Our non-conference schedule features top programs from multiple regions and the America East promises to, again, be one of the best in the country. Our fans will look forward to some great games at Casey Stadium in the fall.”
The 2018 Great Danes advanced to their eighth-straight conference tournament, securing the six-seed with a victory over Binghamton in the final game of the regular season. In the quarterfinals, UAlbany met three-seed UMass Lowell, a rematch of the 2017 America East title game. The Riverhawks avenged that defeat, eliminating the Danes 1-0. UAlbany finished the 2019 season 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the America East.
UAlbany won five games at home for the fourth straight season, and in that time have compiled a 27-6-3 record at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium since the start of the 2015 season. In 2019, UAlbany will host nine regular-season games.
The Great Danes open 2019 with two games on the road against first-time opponents. Kentucky kicks off the schedule on August 30. The Wildcats finished 2018 ranked fifth in the country after winning the Conference USA regular season and tournament and advancing to the Elite Eight. Cincinnati, on September 2, closes the opening road trip.
UAlbany opens at Casey Stadium against Providence on September 6, the first of three home games in a row. America East play begins on September 27 against Hartford, the Danes opponent from the 2016 America East title game.
After a two-year hiatus, Syracuse returns to UAlbany’s slate with a road game on October 1. In their last meeting, the Great Danes upset the third-ranked Orange at Casey Stadium on October 4, 2016, marking the highest-ranked opponent any UAlbany team had defeated at home.
The regular-season rematch with UMass Lowell will take place on October 12, and the Great Danes will play 2018 regular-season champion Stony Brook away on October 26 before hosting 2018 America East Tournament champion New Hampshire in the home finale on November 11. For the seventh-straight year, UAlbany will close the regular season against Binghamton.
The America East Tournament begins with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 9. The semifinals will be Wednesday, November 13, followed by the championship on Sunday, November 16.
