ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women’s basketball team will trek to Maine this weekend for a Saturday matinee with the Black Bears. Tip-off is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Me. and will broadcast on ESPN3.

Saturday’s contest marks the 40th meeting between the two team’s in the sport of women’s basketball. Maine owns a slight 20-19 edge in the all-time series that originated back in 2001. The squads have met five times in the America East Tournament where UAlbany leads the series 3-2.

The Great Danes own a 1-1 clip in league play and a 4-11 mark overall. UAlbany is looking to get back in the win column after suffering a 52-39 setback at Vermont last weekend. Senior Heather Forster paced all players with 12 points and 12 rebounds to earn her third double-double of the year.

Sophomore Kyara Frames is headlining the Great Danes offense, totaling 12.2 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Defensively, Forster is boasting a league-best 7.6 boards per game, while chipping in with 7.2 points per contest. Senior Chyanna Canada and redshirt-junior Amanda Kantzy add to the offensive with 8.0 and 7.7 points per game, respectively. As a team, the Great Danes are averaging 50.9 points and 36.9 rebounds per game.

Maine (10-6) enters the week on a three-game win streak. The Black Bears are off to a perfect start in America East action after defeating New Hampshire (67-46), UMBC (84-44) and Vermont (63-51) to begin the new year. Maine is boasting three double-figure scorers, led by Blanca Millan (17.1 ppt). Tanesha Sutton and Parise Rossignol are posting 14.4 points and 10.7 points, respectively, while Sutton is pacing all players with 7.3 rebounds. As a team, the Black Bears are second in the league in scoring average (65.5) and first in field goal percentage, shooting 31.0 percent from the floor.

UAlbany and Maine split last year’s regular season series, 1-1. UAlbany earned a dominating 68-54 win at the SEFCU Arena in early January, before falling to the Black Bears, 74-69, in an overtime thriller in Bangor during the squad’s regular season finale.

A win would be the first for UAlbany at the Cross Insurance Center since the 2014-15 season. UAlbany would improve to 2-1 in conference action with a victory.

Heather Forster ranks first in the America East in boards per game, aver- aging 7.6 rebounds. The senior earned a career-high 16 boards against Lafayette on December 1, and had recorded six games with double-digit rebounds.
