Pink Game: Support those impacted by cancer

UAlbany Sports Information   09-10-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany football program will host its annual "Pink Game" at 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 against Richmond to support The American Cancer Society. This game gives the community a unique opportunity to honor a loved one who has been impacted by any type of cancer. By making a donation of $50, one can honor someone by having his or her name displayed on the name plate of a UAlbany football player’s jersey. In addition, this donation will include two (2) game tickets.

Tribute Jersey donations must be submitted before Sept. 21, 2018.

“In addition to wearing pink every day in October and raising awareness about breast cancer, these men will be raising funds to help the American Cancer Society save more lives from breast cancer,” said Lizzie Hunter, Senior Manager for the American Cancer Society. “Funds raised allow the Society to help save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research, and patient support.”

Hunter explained, “Each Real Men Wear Pink candidate is charged with a personal fundraising challenge, but we’ve made it a team effort here to work towards a common goal.  Last year our campaign was ranked #4 out of over 260 campaigns in the country so this year our team, made up of nearly 30 Capital Region leaders, plans to work together to raise more than $150,000…and keep the Capital Region leading our national fight against breast cancer!”

The UAlbany athletic department planned this game in support of its athletic director, Mark Benson, who committed to joining 24 other prominent Capital Region men in taking a stand against breast cancer throughout the American Cancer Society’s 2018 Real Men Wear Pink Campaign.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign," Benson said. We enjoy a great relationship with the American Cancer Society through the annual Coaches v Cancer event. Unfortunately, cancer touches everyone.  This year, I’m pleased to be joined by other UAlbany Head Coaches in our support for the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign and forming the UAlbany Athletics Real Men Wear Pink team.”
