Men's Soccer Announces 2018 Schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   06-07-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program and head coach Trevor Gorman have announced the team’s 2018 schedule.  The schedule consists of three exhibition games starting in mid-August followed by a 17-game regular season, during which UAlbany will face three opponents who appeared in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.  Seven regular season games will be played at home at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

“We are looking forward to a very challenging schedule again this fall,” said Gorman.  “We always want to play high-level games and every opponent we’ll face this year brings a lot of quality to the field.”

In 2017, UAlbany won its second straight America East title, a 1-0 double-overtime thriller against UMass Lowell, before defeating Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Great Danes won a program-high 14 games and went 7-1-1 at home.

The exhibition games begin August 12 at Bryant, followed by home exhibitions on August 15 against Siena and August 18 against Canisius.

The regular season officially begins Friday, August 24 when the Great Danes host Marist.  UAlbany visited the Red Foxes to open the 2017 season.  The Danes’ first away game will be Monday, August 27 at Colgate.  The Raiders have won the last two Patriot League titles and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen last season.  August’s final game will be at home on Friday, August 31 against Harvard.

Moving to September, the Great Danes will host St. Bonaventure on Monday, September 3.  The game against the Bonnies precedes a three-game road trip starting Friday, September 7 at Providence.  The Friars made the Elite Eight in 2016 and advanced to the College Cup in 2014.  Next, the Danes will visit Brown on Sunday, September 9, and then will conclude the road trip on Saturday, September 15 at Quinnipiac.

A single home game against Stony Brook on Friday, September 21 to kick off the America East schedule is the lone reprieve the Great Danes have before playing their next four on the road.  UAlbany will visit four-time defending Ivy League champion and 2017 NCAA Tournament participant Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 25, Hartford on Saturday, September 29, 2017 NCAA Sweet Sixteen qualifier New Hampshire on Friday, October 5, and American on Tuesday, October 9.

On Friday, October 12, UAlbany will make its long-awaited return home to host 2017 America East regular season champion Vermont, the team’s opponent from last year’s America East semifinal.  Next, the Great Danes visit UMass Lowell, last year’s championship game opponent, on Saturday, October 20.  The final road game of the regular season will take place Tuesday, October 23 at Cornell.

UAlbany’s final two regular season game will be played at home.  The Danes will host UMBC, last year’s America East quarterfinals opponent, on Saturday, October 27, and will close the regular season once again against Binghamton on Wednesday, October 31.

The 2018 America East Tournament begins with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 3.  The semifinals will follow on Wednesday, November 7, before the championship on Sunday, November 11.
