Joe Reardon enters his 18th season as the hitting coach for the UAlbany softball team. He also assists with recruiting and is the third base coach. In addition, the Great Danes have produced some of the best hitters the league has seen during his tenure.

In 2012, sophomore transfer Charlise Castro led the conference in the Triple Crown categories, home runs (13), RBIs (53) and batting average (.461). She also became UAlbany's single-season leader in RBIs, second in batting average, homers and doubles (13).She was named America East Player of the Year and to the 2012 NFCA Division I Northeast All-Region First Team. As a unit, the 2012 Great Danes led the America East in slugging pct. (.461), RBIs (245) triples (18) and home runs (42). 

UAlbany has finished in the top three of the America East Conference in team batting average in six of the past ten seasons. In addition, the club hit over .300 for three straight years between 2004 and 2006 under Reardon's guidance. The 2004 squad ranked 11th nationally in batting average (.306), while the 2006 team led the country in triples per game (0.50). Reardon, who serves as the hitting coach for the team's fall and winter clinics, has also overseen three America East batting champions in Andee Lindgren (2004), Amber Maisonet (2007) and Meagan Butsch (2008). Furthermore, Butsch was named the league's co-player of the year in 2009 after breaking program records for home runs in a career (31) and a single season (16).

Reardon spent four years at Marist College as an assistant softball coach and hitting mentor from 1996-99. He also served as an assistant at SUNY-New Paltz in 1992 and 1993 before being promoted to head coach for the following two years.
