Short Story: The University at Albany women’s basketball team won its second straight game with a 73-63 victory over Central Connecticut State.

The University at Albany women’s basketball team notched its second straight win with a 73-63 victory over Central Connecticut State Sunday morning.

 

Kantzy started off the proceedings for UAlbany, recording the first points of the game with a quick layup two minutes in. The Blue Devils then went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-2 lead at the 5:38 mark. Lucia Decortes ended the run for Central Connecticut State with a layup, which sparked a 9-5 run for the Great Danes, trimming the lead to 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.

 

Schecter kept the UAlbany scoring run going into the second, cutting the Central Connecticut State lead to 15-13 three minutes in. The Blue Devils continued to stay ahead though, responding with a layup and a quick three-pointer, giving them a 20-16 advantage. UAlbany kept the score close after layups by Khepera Stokes and Schecter, and then a three-pointer by Haegerstrand, but the Blue Devils took a 28-24 lead into halftime. 

 

The two teams traded points early in in the third, but Central Connecticut continued to maintain its lead. After the score became 34-28, UAlbany scored the next six points after free throws from Schecter, and then back-to-back layups by Schecter and Kantzy knotting the game up at 34.

After the Great Danes proceeded to tie the game up, the team scored the next eight points taking a 42-34 lead, its largest of the game at the moment. The Blue Devils responded quickly after, with an 11-3 run to tie the game up at 45 heading into the fourth.

 

Early in the fourth quarter, the back and forth trend between the two teams continued. UAlbany stretched its lead to 11 with a 63-52 advantage at the 5:51 mark, sparked by Kyara Frames three-pointer. The Great Danes proceeded to pull away with 3:49 remaining after Frames made another three-pointer, stretching the lead 66-52, their biggest of the game. UAlbany maintain its lead the rest of the way and held on for a 73-63 win.

 

Next

The Great Danes return home to host Fairleigh Dickinson Florham on Wednesday, December 4. Tip-off is slated for 5 pm.
