BOSTON – The University at Albany earned two of three women’s soccer awards this week, the America East announced Monday. Katie Gowing was named Offensive Player of the Week and Sophia Chen was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Rounding out the awards were Co-Defensive Player Kacey Lambertson from Vermont and Rookie Olivia Chalifoux from Maine.
Gowing, a junior defender from Houston, Texas, scored twice in the second half against New Hampshire on Sunday, accounting for both of UAlbany’s goals in the game. They were Gowing’s first two goals of the season, garnering her the first Offensive Player of the Week award of her career.
Chen, a junior goalkeeper from Louisville, Colo., was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Chen recorded her fifth shutout of the season against New Hampshire, stopping all six shots she faced from the Wildcats. Since taking over as the starting goalie, Chen and UAlbany are 6-1-3 overall.
The Great Danes return to action on Thursday, October 17 with a trip to Stony Brook.
