Short story: The No. 21 UAlbany field hockey team continues its hot streak, winning its eighth-straight game following a 3-1 win at Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 21 UAlbany field hockey team defeated Columbia on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Julie Rodijk scored the game-winner in the 23rd minute for a 3-1 win. The Great Danes improve to 9-3 overall while Columbia falls to 5-5.

 

With the win, UAlbany has now won eight-straight games.

 

UAlbany took a 1-0 lead when Elaina Burchell send a shot past the Columbia defense and into the cage in the 6th minute. The Lions made it a 1-1 game behind a goal from Kelsey Farkas at 19:55.

 

UAlbany regained the lead in the 24th minute behind Julie Rodijk’s first collegiate goal. On the play, Kelsey McCrudden inserted the ball to an open Rodijk who sent one into the back of the cage.

 

Baylee Burghardt added an insurance goal in the fourth quarter. Brughardt’s tally was her sixth of the season, marking a career-high for the senior.

 

Up next: The Great Danes are back in action on Friday, October 11 at home against America East foe New Hampshire (1 p.m.).
