UAlbany Sports Information   07-22-2019

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – University at Albany rising sophomore EJ Onah won the bronze medal over the weekend at the U20 Pan American Games.  Her final mark of 19-11.75 is just shy of her collegiate best of 20-02.25.

Winning the long jump was Onah’s American teammate Claire Bryant, who recorded a mark of 20-02.25, and placing second was Jamaica’s Shantae Foreman, recording a mark of 20-01.25.

On her first attempt, Onah recorded a wind-aided mark of 17-07.50.  She fouled her next two attempts before hitting her big jump that vaulted her into third place.  Her final two jumps were 18-10.50 and 17-11.50, into a headwind.

In her first year as a Great Dane, Onah set freshman class records in the long jump during both the indoor and outdoor season, and won the event at both the America East Indoor and Outdoor Championships.  She earned her spot on Team USA by placing second at USATF U20 Championships in June.
