ALBANY, N.Y. - University at Albany Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Roberto Vives has once again been selected by the Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico to join the Puerto Rico coaching staff, this time at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Vives will oversee the intermediate hurdlers group, which includes UAlbany alumna Grace Claxton. The group also includes Gabby Scott, who placed second in the 400m hurdles at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Additionally, Vives will oversee the 4x400m relay group, which includes Claxton, Scott, and Claxton’s regular teammates on the relay, Pariis Garcia and Alethia Marrero.
UAlbany has one other representative on the Puerto Rico roster in alumnus and former coach Ricardo Estremera, who will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Vives previously coached for Puerto Rico at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in March, 2018, and for Team USA at the 2015 North America, Central America, and Caribbean Senior Area Championships.
The track & field competition at the Pan American Games begins August 1.
