Danes Salute: "Hometown Heroes Game" set for Sept. 21

UAlbany Sports Information   07-03-2019

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany football program will honor the men and women who serve our country as well as the Capital Region's first responders during the first annual “Hometown Heroes” game Saturday, Sept. 21, against Lafayette at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

This marks the seventh consecutive year the Great Danes have honored military members and recognized the family of Army Lt. Col. Todd J. Clark, a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany who was killed in action in Afghanistan. This season, the program also will show its appreciation for our community's police, firefighters and paramedics.

Fans can honor both military members and first responders with a decal on the back of a student-athlete’s helmet to be worn during the game, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. CLICK HERE to submit a name.

Additionally, fans can purchase $5 tickets that will be donated to local veterans and first-responder organizations through UAlbany Athletics’ “Tickets for Heroes Program.” The tickets can be purchased by CLICKING HERE.

UAlbany has been honoring veterans since 2013, when Head Coach Greg Gattuso sought a way to recognize our active and retired military. The program since has honored hundreds of veterans. The Great Danes also plan to visit Albany Stratton VA Medical Center on Wednesday, July 10, as they do annually, and also meet with local first responders to express their appreciation.
