ALBANY, N.Y.– University at Albany women’s basketball’s Megan Methven has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach. Methven joined head coach Colleen Mullen’s inaugural UAlbany staff for the 2018-19 season after spending two season with Mullen at Army West Point.

“Megan is a rising star in our profession and since arriving with me here at UAlbany, she has provided a level of maturity, consistency, and excellence daily,” said Mullen. “Megan’s work ethic is unparalleled and her knowledge of the game is beyond her years. She excels in every area as a coach and as a leader. She has made an immediate impact by attracting high quality prospects as well as developing our young backcourt. I am excited to work alongside her in this new role as our associate head coach.”

Methven was instrumental in the Great Dane’s success in 2018-19, helping the squad to a fourth place finish in the America East. UAlbany advanced to the semifinals of the America East Tournament for the seventh consecutive year and posted two regular season conference honorees in Heather Forster and Kyara Frames.

A seven-year coaching veteran, Methven spearheads UAlbany’s recruiting operation. The New York native’s efforts on the recruiting trail helped the Great Danes land six high quality recruits for the 2019-20 season.

In addition to her responsibilities in recruiting, Methven also specializes in the development of the Great Danes backcourt and assists Mullen with game preparation.

This past season, Methven guided Forster to an America East All-Conference Second Team nod. Forster, a 2018-19 All-Academic selection, finished her senior campaign tied for third in the conference with 7.3 rebounds per game, while center Alexi Schecter had a breakout junior season, accumulating 45 blocks, just seven shy of the programs single season record.

Before making the move to the Capitol Region, Methven built an impressive resume serving on the staffs at Army West Point (2016-18) and Stonehill (2013-16).

Methven graduated from Stonehill in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics before completing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Bridgewater State University in 2015.
