Connor Fields among stars of first PLL weekends
ALBANY, N.Y. — Playing for the Premier Lacrosse League’s Chaos LC, former University at Albany men’s lacrosse star Connor Fields has four goals, including a highlight-reel score Sunday, June 9, that earned him a spot on the SportsCenter Top 10 list.
Fields, who also has a pair of assists through two games, is playing with five other Great Danes alumni on Chaos: Miles Thompson (four goals, two assists), Kyle McClancy (one assist), Troy Reh (one goal), Joe Resetarits and Blaze Riorden, who leads the league with 30 saves.
Brett Queener and Ty Thompson (two goals) also are playing in the league for Chrome LC.
Fields’ goal went viral on social media this past Saturday after he scored at Red Bull Arena in New York, where the PLL was hosting games in its second weekend. On the play, Fields faked a behind-the-back pass, causing his defender to turn his head; he then fired a shot low into the net.
Fields and the rest of the Great Danes alumni in the PLL will be back at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, when the PLL’s season-long tour makes its stop in Albany. More details about the weekend, including how to purchase tickets, will be available soon.
The Great Danes also are well-represented in Major League Lacrosse this season. Sean Eccles, who graduated this past May, picked up his first professional point, an assist, on Saturday, June 2, playing for the Denver Outlaws. Former UAlbany players Adam Osika and Lyle Thompson also are competing this season as teammates for the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
UAlbany has a long tradition of having its alumni populate the professional ranks. This past indoor season, eight former Great Danes played in the National Lacrosse League. And a UAlbany student-athlete has been chosen in 12 of the past 13 MLL drafts.
