Women's Golf Earns Three MAAC Individual Honors
ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany women’s golf team took home three individual awards, along with the tournament title, from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
A day after the Great Danes won the title by 17 strokes, Head Coach Colleen Cashman-McSween was named Coach of the Year, Madison Walker was co-Rookie of the Year and Helga Einarsdottir made the league’s All-Academic Team, the MAAC announced Sunday, April 21.
Cashman-McSween took home the Coach of the Year honor for the second straight year and third time in her six-year tenure. She will be leading the Great Danes to the NCAA Tournament for the third time.
“The players make me look good, and it’s easy to do my job with this group of ladies,” said Cashman-McSween, who also guided the Great Danes to MAAC championships in 2015 and 2017. “We truly are a family, and that’s what tops all of the honors and awards.”
Walker, a freshman from Bermuda Dunes, Calif., tied for sixth overall at +16 this past weekend during the three-day, three-round championship on the Disney Magnolia Golf Course.
Einarsdottir, a junior from Setijamarnes, Iceland, qualified for the All-Academic Team by maintaining a cumulative grade-point average higher than 3.20.
The Great Danes will learn at which NCAA Tournament regional site they’ll compete during the Selection Show on Wednesday, April 24. The show begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
