Men's Lacrosse Opens AE play with UMass Lowell
ALBANY — The University at Albany begins its try for a 10th America East championship when it opens leauge play Saturday, March 16, against UMass Lowell at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
The Great Danes have won the league tournament each of the past two seasons and in three of the past four. The program has an all-time 71-20 record in league play, and UAlbany has lost only twice to a league opponent since 2013. The Great Danes haven’t lost a regular-season home game to an America East team since April 28, 2012 (Stony Brook, 12-11).
UAlbany is coming off a 14-9 loss to No. 7 Maryland this past Saturday at Casey Stadium. The game was part of one of the most challenging non-conference slates in the country. The Great Danes have played two Top 10 teams and four who competed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
UMass Lowell is 3-3 overall following Tuesday’s 14-4 road loss to UMass. The River Hawks are led in scoring by Cory Highfield’s 20 points (12 goals). Goalkeeper Grant Lardieri has a 10.08 goals-against average and .493 save percentage. This will be UMass Lowell’s fourth straight road game.

UAlbany has won all five meetings between the programs since UMass Lowell joined the league in 2015, including both meetings last season. The Great Danes defeated the River Hawks, 13-6, in Lowell during the regular season and won an America East quarterfinal, 15-10, at Casey Stadium. UAlbany is averaging 18 goals per game against UMass Lowell.

Eccles nears 100-point milestone
Senior midfielder Sean Eccles is now just three points away from 100 in his career. He has 97 points (71 goals, 26 assists) after a two-point (one-goal) performance against Maryland this past Saturday. The Syracuse, N.Y., native is one of just two Great Danes (Jakob Patterson) with at least one point in every game this season.
UAlbany has two other players closing in on 100 career points.

Patterson leads the way
Junior attack Jakob Patterson has scored a goal in each of the past four games and has a point in all five games this season. He leads UAlbany in points (17), goals (11), assists (six), shots (38) and shots on goal (18).
