“I am really proud of our effort today, especially because of how we bounced back from a tough loss at Hartford. We had two great practices and our leaders brought a lot of toughness and resiliency. It says a lot when you can take a bad loss and throw it away as quickly as our girls did in order to prepare for today’s game. We had a great 40-minute effort today and for that, I am proud.”

Short Story: Heather Forster set a new career-high with 16 points to lead the University at Albany’s women’s basketball team to a dominating 59-41 victory against visiting New Hampshire for Commitment to Education Day.

Recap: Bouncing back from last weekend's road loss, the University at Albany women’s basketball team got back in the win column with a 59-41 home victory against New Hampshire for the program’s annual Commitment to Education Day.

With the win, the Great Danes improve to 5-0 against America East opponents at the SEFCU Arena.

The Great Danes played a special early tip-off Wednesday in front of nearly 2,000 middle and elementary school students from 18 schools in the surrounding area. In its 13th year, Commitment to Education Day invites schools from around the Capital Region to partake in educational pregame actives and with members from around the UAlbany Athletic Department.

UAlbany’s forward played a major key in today’s victory, totaling 32 points in the paint to New Hampshire’s 16. The Great Danes are 6-1 this season when scoring 30-plus points from inside the paint.

Heather Forster scored the first nine points for the Great Danes who jutted out to a 9-2 lead at the first media timeout.

Coming out of the time out, Alexi Schecter scored the next four points, before Patricia Conroy added to the fun with two points of her own. UAlbany held a strong 21-7 advantage at the end of the opening frame.

The Great Danes’ defense did not go unnoticed in the first quarter, as the seven points allowed tied a season-best for the squad. This is the fourth time this season UAlbany has held its opponents to single-digits in the opening stanza.

Amanda Kantzy, Khepera Stokes and Chyanna Canada each found the score sheet in the second quarter, helping the squad grow its lead to as many as 23 points.

Schecter and Forster walked into the break totaling 12 and 11 points, respectfully. The duo combined for 23 of the team’s 29 first-half points.

UAlbany’s 18-point margin at half time is the squad’s second largest mark this season.

New Hampshire put forth its best scoring effort in the third posting 17 points, but the Wildcats couldn’t close the gap. UAlbany’s offense continued to impress, countering with 13 points of their own.

Forster played limited minutes in the second half due to foul trouble. The senior made her minutes count with her final basket coming in the fourth quarter. Her layup with 7:24 remaining in the game establoshed a new personal-high for points scored with 16.

The team would go on to score the final eight points of the game without Forster, behind a pair of triples Frames and a jumper from Khepera Stokes.

Up Next: The Great Danes hit the road for a weekend match up at in-state foe Binghamton. Saturday’s tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Binghamton, N.Y.
