KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two players from the University at Albany men’s soccer team have earned 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-Regional honors, the association announced Wednesday. Seniors Nico Solabarrieta and Daniel Krutzen were each named to the All-Northeast Second Team.
Solabarrieta, a senior from Santiago, Chile, led the team and the America East with 10 goals and 25 points during the 2018 season. Against American University, Solabarrieta set all-time program records for goals and points in a single game, scoring four times in 27 minutes of action, exclusively in the second half. Solabarrieta departs the program as the all-time Division I era career assists leader while ranking second in the Division I era in both points and goals behind former teammate Afonso Pinheiro. Solabarrieta was named America East All-Conference First Team this year, as well as All-Academic.
Krutzen makes his second-straight appearance on the All-Regional list, having been named All-East First Team last season. Krutzen led the America East in assists for the second straight season, and briefly wrested the Division I era career record from Solabarrieta earlier this year. In the game against American, Krutzen recorded four total assists, a single-game program record.
The America East landed 16 total All-Northeast selections across the three teams.
The 2018 Great Danes finished with a record of 8-10-0, including 3-4-0 in the America East, and were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament by UMass Lowell.
