Great Danes Selected to Finish Fourth in AE Preseason Poll

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany women’s basketball was selected to finish fourth in the America East Preseason Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.

The Great Danes, who finished with a 24-8 clip a season ago, received 39 total points in the poll. The squad returns seven players to the court in 2018-19.

“With many of our players in new and expanded roles this season, they are committed to working hard and focused on improving every day,” said Head Coach Colleen Mullen. “The league was very competitive last year, and with so much parody from top to bottom,  I anticipate it will be another exciting season for the America East.”

Maine, the 2017-18 America East Tournament Champions, were unanimously selected to finish first overall for the second-straight season, accumulating 64 points and eight first place votes.

Hartford and Stony Brook tied for second garnering 53 points apeice with the Hawks receiving the final first place vote. Following UAlbany were Binghamton and Vermont who recorded 34 and 28 points, respectively. New Hampshire was picked to finish seventh with 25 points, while UMBC (19) and UMass Lowell (9) rounded out the preseason poll.

The Great Danes are set to open the 2018-19 season on the road at USF on Friday, November 9. UAlbany will open home action on Wednesday, Nov. 14, hosting in-state foe Manhattan at 5 p.m.
