Nicole Otero Lands AE Player of the Week Nod

UAlbany Sports Information   09-11-2018

Albany, N.Y. — After surpassing 1,500 career digs and leading the Albany volleyball team to a 3-0 mark and tournament crown at the FGCU Invitational this past weekend, Nicole Otero was tabbed as the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week.

Otero becomes just the fourth Great Dane to eclipse 1,500 career digs. The Guaynabo, Puerto Rico native native hit the career milestone with 18 digs against Western Illinois on Sept. 7. She currently ranks fourth all-time in program history with 1,554 digs.

Otero also nabbed an FGCU All-Tournament selection after standing as the weekends’s top libero. The senior led all players with 5.55 digs pre set. Otero finished the tournament with 61 digs and 16 assists.

The Great Danes concluded the FGCU Invitational undefeated, while picking up their first two straight set victories of the season — against Western Illinois and 2017 NIVC Semifinalist West Virginia.

This is Otero’s 17th career #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor and first of 2018.
