UAlbany Alum Blaze Riorden Signs with NLL's Philadelphia Wings
PHILADELPHIA – UAlbany men's lacrosse alum Blaze Riorden ’16 will be back in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), signing a contract with the Philadelphia Wings for the 2019 season.
Riorden, who was recently invited to try out for the 2019 U.S. Indoor National Team and played for the U.S. in the 2015 World Games, last competed for the Buffalo Bandits in the NLL in 2017 after suiting up with the Whitby Steelhawks of the Arena Lacrosse League in 2018.
“We are excited to add Blaze to our roster here in Philadelphia,” said Philadelphia Wings GM/Head Coach Paul Day. “He is playing everywhere right now (Dallas and Quebec), he is addicted to the game. Philadelphia is going to be a great opportunity for him to grow his box career. This 24-year old has a great future ahead of him and I can’t wait to watch him grow.”
Riorden is among a number of UAlbany alumni set to play in the NLL in 2019. Last year, Seth Oakes, Joe Resetarits, Corey Small, Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson are among former Great Danes that competed in the NLL in 2018.
The Philadelphia Wings is the NLL’s expansion franchise, set to begin competition in the 2019 season. They will play their games at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown Philadelphia.
Riorden graduated from UAlbany in 2016, serving as a four-year starting goalkeeper. In the box game, he is a forward, having 15 goals and 33 assists in seven games for Whitby in 2018.
