NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany track & field program was ranked again in the latest Northeast Regional poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.  The women improved three spots to fourth and the men held steady at seventh.

In the women’s poll, Dartmouth retained the top spot for the third straight week.  Behind the Big Green, Harvard improved one spot to second, swapping placed with Syracuse in third. Connecticut, improving the most of any school in the poll, jumped nine spots to fifth.  New Hampshire jumped two spots to 11th and UMass Lowell fell one spot to 13th as the only other America East schools earning a ranking.

Connecticut and Syracuse remained first and second in the men’s poll.  Army jumped to placed to third, while Rhode Island held steady at fourth and Boston University jumped one spot to fifth. UMass Lowell jumped to spots to 10th, tying with Army for the biggest improvement week-to-week.  New Hampshire was the only other America East school ranked, holding firm at 14th.

The women added four new Northeast top-eight performances last weekend, and now hold a total of eight.  Anika Hibbard ranks third in the high jump in 5-08.00, Tara Belinsky ranks fifth in the shot put in 47-08.50, Amiynah Campbell ranks fifth in the discus in 146-06.00, and Lynda Brundige ranks eighth in the triple jump in a wind-aided 38-10.25.  The women’s 4x100m relay, which still leads the Northeast with a time of 45.32, broke their own school record with a time of 44.92 in Jamaica over the weekend, but the mark does not count due to the lack of another American institution at the meet.

The men added two new Northeast top-eight performances and now hold 11.  Victor Cotto ranks fifth in the long jump in 23-10.00 and Devon Willis ranks seventh in the triple jump in 48-03.25.

The Great Danes will host the 34th Spring Classic starting on Thursday, April 19.
