UAlbany Men's Lacrosse Unanimous Pick to Finish #1 in AE Preseason Poll
ALBANY, N.Y. – The defending America East champion UAlbany men’s lacrosse team has been unanimously predicted to finish first in the league in the 2018 season.
The poll is voted on by the league’s head coaches, who cannot vote for their own team. UAlbany received all six possible first place votes for 36 points. It is the fifth season in a row that the Great Danes have been predicted to finish first and fourth time in the last five years that UAlbany was a unanimous selection.
UAlbany is the coming off its fifth consecutive undefeated America East regular season, defeating Binghamton 20-8 in the 2017 America East title game for the league’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. UAlbany proceeded to defeat North Carolina for a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round, before falling to eventual national champion Maryland.
UAlbany is ranked #3 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Preseason Poll and #2 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Face-Off Rankings.
The America East regular season champion earns the right to host the league tournament on May 3rd and 5th.
Stony Brook is second in the poll with 27 points, followed by Vermont, which had the other first-place vote, for 22 points. The rest of the poll is filled out by UMBC (19 points), Hartford (18), Binghamton (17) and UMass Lowell (8).
