ALBANY, N.Y.—The Golfstat Division I Women’s Golf rankings were released October 17, 2017 ranking the UAlbany Great Danes at 152. This is the program’s best ranking to date.
“When the ranking came out, I was very pleased and excited to see our program at its best ever. It is a direct reflection of the hard work and talent this team has displayed over the summer and the entire fall season,” said head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween. “Any given weekend, all the players have the ability to lead this team and it is huge when you know you can count on every player to play well.”
This season the Women’s Golf Team has been very successful with three top-five finishes at tough tournaments. Additionally, sophomore Helga Einarsdottir was just recently named the MAAC Women’s Golfer of the Month. Einarsdottir’s best performance was at the Rutgers Invitational where she tied for 4th overall shooting nine over par. Other consistent top performers have been sophomores Annika Espino and Megan Henry. In the past two tournaments at Dartmouth and Yale, the duo tied for 20th at each course, both shooting eight over par.
“When I first started here at UAlbany, it was a goal of mine to get this program into the Top 125 in the country and we are most definitely going in the right direction to achieve that,” said Cashman-McSween.
UAlbany is currently in the midst of competing in its final fall tournament of the season at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
