UAlbany Women's Soccer Plays at Vermont, Hosts Maine for Senior Day

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The UAlbany women’s soccer team has three America East games left, beginning with an away game vs. Vermont on Thursday, October 12th at 7 p.m., then Senior Day against Maine on Sunday, October 15th at 1 p.m. at home.  UAlbany will honor seniors Vivian Vega and Morgan Loder on Sunday.

Each game will be broadcast online on  Admission to the Senior Day game at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium is free.

UAlbany has won its last four games against Vermont, including 3-0 at home last season, to stand 8-10-2 all-time against the Catamounts.  Unbeaten in its last three games against Maine, UAlbany, including a 2-1 comeback victory in Orono last year, trails the all-time series vs. the Black Bears 5-10-2.

UAlbany is coming off a 2-1 home defeat against UMass Lowell to stand 3-10-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the America East, tying for seventh place with four points.  Vermont is unbeaten in its last three games, coming off a 1-0 home victory over Maine on Sunday, for a 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 America East standing for seven points and fifth place.  Maine is 4-8-1 overall, having six points for a tie for fifth place off a 1-3-1 conference record. 

VEGA - TIED FOR FIRST ALL-TIME IN GOALS AT UALBANY: Vivian Vega, who scored the game-winning goal against Hartford for the 2016 America East title, stands with 23 goals in their career, tied for first all-time at UAlbany with Shayla Bergeron, who had 23 goals from 2010-12.  She earned her 23rd goal on October 5th in the 1-1 draw vs. Hartford.

FRESHMAN UP!: UAlbany will be relying on two freshmen to split the time in goal this season.  It will be the second year in a row that UAlbany will have its primary goalkeeper being a freshman.  Through the season, Andrea Leitner has started 11 with a 68.2% save rate and 1.85 goals allowed average.  Sophia Chen has started three times at a 52.9% save rate and 2.67 goals allowed average.

KOPP WITH THE ASSIST: Caroline Kopp stands tied for tenth in the America East with three this year, along with Miranda Badovinac.  Kopp also has 11 assists in her career, placing her fifth all-time in UAlbany history, five away from Kiana Rugar’s top mark of 16.  Kopp had six assists in 2016, the fourth-highest single season assists mark in program history.

MIGHTY MARIAH: Mariah Williams is UAlbany’s top goal scorer this season with four, including UAlbany’s first three goals this season with two on penalty kicks.  Including the two goals vs. UConn last season, Williams had a streak of five goals in a row for UAlbany.  The junior has 13 career goals at UAlbany.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Vermont’s scoring leaders are junior Brooke Jenkins with five goals and two assists and senior Sarah Martin on three goals and five assists.  Senior Coco Speckmaier has a 82.7% save rate and 1.28 goals allowed average. 

Three players for Maine have two goals each, led by sophomore Nicole Bailey with two goals and two assists.  Sophomore Annalena Kriebisch is in goal with a 1.21 goals allowed average and a 81.5% save rate.
