ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany football team moved back into the Top 25 rankings Monday, coming in at No. 19 in the STATS Poll and No. 22 in Coaches Poll.
The Great Danes (3-1, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) are coming off a 19-10 overtime win over Villanova, which last week was ranked No. 7 in the STATS Poll and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll. The win was UAlbany's first over a Football Championship Subdivision Top 10 opponent.
UAlbany is ranked for the first time since the preseason, when it was No. 24 in the FCS poll, though the Great Danes had been receiving votes each of the past two weeks. The program's highest-ever ranking in the STATS poll was No. 16 after starting the 2016 season with four straight wins.
Elon (3-1, 1-0 CAA), UAlbany’s opponent on the road this coming Saturday, is ranked No. 23 in the STATS Poll and receiving votes in the Coaches Poll after a 36-33 win over Richmond. It's the first national ranking for the Phoenix since 2010.
Six CAA teams are ranked in the STATS poll. That ties with the Missouri Valley Conference for the most of any league.
To celebrate UAlbany's return to the rankings, any fans who purchase two regular-priced tickets to the Homecoming game Oct. 21 against Maine also can get two tickets to the Military Appreciation Game on Nov. 18 against New Hampshire for just $19.
