UAlbany Women's Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Play at URI, Missouri

KINGSTON, R.I. – The UAlbany women’s soccer team will finish non-conference play this week, first heading east to Rhode Island on Thursday, September 14th at 7 p.m. then out to the Central Time Zone to play Missouri on Sunday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. MT).

The UAlbany-Rhode Island game at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston will air on the A-10 Network online, plus attendance to the game is free.  The UAlbany-Missouri contest will be broadcast online on the SEC Network+.  For those looking to attend the game at Missouri: tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors.

UAlbany and Rhode Island have met each of the past five seasons.  URI leads the all-time series 3-2, but UAlbany has the last two victories, including a Mariah Williams golden goal sending the Great Danes to a 2-1 overtime victory at home on September 1, 2016.  UAlbany and Missouri will meet for the first time.

UAlbany is trying to snap a two-game losing streak, coming off a 2-1 defeat against Colgate on Sunday, to enter the week at 2-5 overall.  Atlantic 10 member URI is playing its second straight home game, having a 2-5 record after falling to Marquette 2-1 on Sunday.  Missouri will open SEC play against Georgia on Friday then will play UAlbany, starting the week at 3-4-1 overall.

VEGA - SECOND ALL-TIME IN GOALS AT UALBANY: Vivian Vega, who scored the game-winning goal against Hartford for the 2016 America East title, stands with 20 goals in their career, second all-time at UAlbany.  She is three goals away from tying for first in goals with Shayla Bergeron, who had 23 goals from 2010-12.

FRESHMAN UP!: UAlbany will be relying on two freshmen to split the time in goal this season.  It will be the second year in a row that UAlbany will have its primary goalkeeper being a freshman.  Through the first seven games, Andrea Leitner has started the last five with a 60.7% save rate and 2.20 goals allowed average.  Sophia Chen has started twice with a 50% save rate and 2.50 goals allowed average.

TRAVELING DANES: UAlbany’s players come from eight states and three continents.  States represented include the home state of New York plus Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Texas, plus the team has players from Australia, Canada and Germany.

MIGHTY MARIAH: Mariah Williams is off to a strong beginning as a starter at forward, scoring UAlbany’s first three goals this season, including 2-2 on penalty kicks.  Including the two goals vs. UConn last season, Williams had a streak of five goals in a row for UAlbany.  The junior has 13 career goals at UAlbany.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:Under first-year head coach Megan Jessee, Rhode Island is led by senior forward Taylor Ross with three goals.  Sophomore Haley Brennan and freshman Julia Freeman had split time in goal for a 2.38 goals allowed average.

Five Missouri players have at least four points, led by sophomore forward Sarah Luebbert with a goal and three assists.  Senior Kristen Rivers and junior Kelsey Dossey combine for time in the cage at 1.31 goals allowed a game.
