America East Releases Women's Basketball Conference Schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   08-22-2017

BOSTON – The America East released the 2017-18 women’s basketball conference schedules Tuesday morning, completing the University at Albany women’s team’s schedule for the upcoming season.

After locking up second place during the 2016-17 America East regular season behind a 12-4 conference record, the Great Danes won their unprecedented sixth-consecutive America East tournament and earned their sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.

The women will open America East play on the road with a January 3 game at Hartford, the team’s America East semifinal opponent from last season, which was also the Danes’ closest game during the tournament.  On January 6, UAlbany will host 2016-17 America East regular season champion New Hampshire.

January 10 features a trip to Stony Brook, followed by the first of two games with last year’s America East finals opponent Maine at SEFCU Arena on January 13.  A second home game against Binghamton on January 15 precedes a two-game road trip to UMass Lowell on January 18 and UMBC on January 21.

The first cycle through the America East concludes a home game against Vermont on January 24.  Stony Brook visits SEFCU Arena on January 27 to begin the second round through the conference.

After their first of two bye sessions, the Great Danes will visit New Hampshire on February 3.  UMass Lowell visits Albany on February 5, followed by a trip to Vermont on February 8.  UAlbany will play its fourth game in eight days when Hartford comes to SEFCU on February 11.

After a Valentine’s Day bye, the Great Danes host one final home game of the regular season with UMBC on February 17, before playing the final two games on the road.  First, the team will visit Binghamton on February 22, followed by a trip to Maine on February 25.

“This will be another challenging and exciting year for America East women's basketball,” said head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee.  “The conference is talented from top to bottom with great coaches and players.  UNH amongst others have many returning players and others are reloading with great talent.  I believe we have a nice combination of returning and new players that will help us compete at a high level every game.  We are really looking forward to each night being a battle.”

The America East tournament will take a slightly different format this season, with a play-in game between the eighth and ninth seeds to fill out the final eight-team bracket on February 28.  The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place in Portland, Maine for the second consecutive season on March 3-4, before the highest remaining seed hosts the finals on March 9.

2017-18 UAlbany women’s basketball season tickets are currently on sale for just $50. This year’s home slate consists of 13 games, including five non-conference and a challenging America East schedule.  Single game tickets will be available to the public starting on October 16. Interested parties may visit or call at (518) 442-DANE.
