ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team has been recognized as a 2017 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad for strong success in the classroom.
To qualify, teams must have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2016-17 academic year. UAlbany as a team had a 3.24 cumulative GPA this past year. It is the third year in a row, and fourth year in the last five, that UAlbany has earned this honor.
In addition, three Great Danes were selected to the 2017 Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll. Andrea Flood, Sarah Martin and Emma Powlin were all honored with this award. To qualify, players must have a 3.5 GPA or higher and be on at least junior standing both academically and athletically.
Flood and Martin, with a 3.69 GPA and a 3.62 GPA respectively, each earned a place on the honor roll for the second time. Powlin, a junior with a 3.63 GPA, earns a place on the list in her first year eligible.
The IWLCA announced these academic awards on Wednesday.
On the field, UAlbany earned an at-large into the NCAA Tournament after getting to the America East title game. The Great Danes finished 12-6 overall, including a top-10 victory over Cornell.
