David Steckel Joins UAlbany Men's Basketball as Director of Operations
ALBANY, N.Y. – David Steckel has been hired as the director of operations for the UAlbany men's basketball team, starting in the 2017-18 season.
Steckel comes to UAlbany after being the assistant operations and video coordinator at Duquesne University, also formerly being a graduate assistant.
“I am extremely appreciative of Coach Brown for giving me the opportunity to join the men's basketball staff at UAlbany,” said Steckel. “Coach Brown has built UAlbany into one of the most decorated programs in college basketball over the last decade, and I am incredibly excited to experience the winning tradition. I'm looking forward to helping the program move forward in any way that I can.”
“We are excited to add David to our staff,” said UAlbany head coach Will Brown. “He gained valuable operations and video experience the past few years while working at Duquesne of the Atlantic 10. He worked with current UAlbany assistant Josh Pelletier at Duquesne and Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry, who I have known and respected for a long time. He comes highly recommended.”
His last two years at Duquesne, Steckel was the team's video coordinator, overseeing film exchange and editing for the Dukes. He also dealt with the planning and execution of the Jim Ferry Basketball Camp, oversaw the staff of six student managers and ordering of equipment plus ran the team's social media pages.
Previous to graduation, he served as the head student manager of the basketball team from 2012-15. His duties included acquiring of game film, statistical analysis of the roster, creation of highlight tapes and daily rebounding for players in practice facility.
Steckel is proficient in Synergy Sports Tech, SportsCode Elite and Gamebreaker, Final Cut Pro/iMovie, Microsoft Office plus graphic design programs GIMP and Adobe Photoshop.
Steckel earned his undergraduate degree from Duquesne in 2015 with a Bachelor's in sports marketing & supply chain management. He is currently working on his Master's Degree in Sports Business at Duquesne.
