UAlbany (10-4) and Dartmouth (5-8) were tied at 7-7 shortly into the second half. Martin netted the next three goals, then assisted one to Kenzie Neal, for a key 4-0 run that led to the UAlbany victory. “I thought it was an outstanding effort on our part on several fronts with our sixth game in the last 18 days,” said UAlbany head coach John Battaglino. “The defense adjusted and made good stands around Erin [Leghart]. Sarah Martin and Dakotah Savitcheff showed why they are under consideration for the Tewaaraton. We've gotten tougher over the last few weeks, and it showed today.” With the win, UAlbany has won five consecutive games, including three contests on the road. Martin finished the game with seven points, off six goals and one assist, seven draw controls and two ground balls. Neal had three goals and an assist while Dakotah Savitcheff scored two goals off free position shots. Erin Leghart picked up the victory with six saves and seven ground balls in the cage. For Dartmouth, Elizabeth Mastrio and Katie Bourque each had two goals and an assist. Kiera Vrindten had the loss in goal with two saves. Dartmouth got off to a 3-0 start in the game in the opening 4:30 of the contest, the final coming off a putback on a saved free position shot. After winning the next draw and scoring on a goal by Neal from Kaylee Rickert on that possession, UAlbany hit a trio of free position shots in a row from Neal, Martin and Savitcheff to take a 4-3 lead with just over 10 minutes gone. UAlbany took advantage of another free position score from Savitcheff midway through the first half. The UAlbany defense held off Dartmouth for a span of 22 minutes as the Great Danes led 5-3 with 3:30 left in the 1st. Dartmouth went on another 3-0 run, started by a free position goal then followed by two more in the field of play, to give the Big Green a lead. Martin buried a shot from about 10 meters out with nine seconds left in the period to tie the game at 6-6 at halftime. Martin netted a goal just over a minute out of the halftime break, which Dartmouth got back two minutes following for a 7-7 tie score. Martin took control for UAlbany, netting a goal with 22:42 left to send UAlbany back ahead. The Great Danes held on defense, including not allowing a goal on a player-down situation, keeping its one goal lead until about 13 minutes left in the 2nd. Martin buried a shot seconds after a free position attempt, then added another quickly after a won draw. Quickly thereafter, Martin assisted Neal on a goal to make it 11-7 with 11:35 remaining. UAlbany started to use the shot clock and run off time. Dartmouth got a goal back with 3:32 left to play, then Neal and Shannon Mackesey caused late turnovers to hold down the Dartmouth offense. UAlbany took the 11-8 victory. UAlbany has a long break before its regular season finale, heading to Vestal to take on Binghamton on Saturday, April 29th at 1 p.m.
