Greg Gattuso Announces Additions, Changes to UAlbany Football Coaching Staff
ALBANY, N.Y. – UAlbany head football coach Greg Gattuso has announced changes to the 2017 coaching staff, including three additions and three coaches changing titles.
Gattuso has added Bill Hurley as a wide receivers coach, Will Fiacchi as an offensive assistant and Bill Nesselt as a defensive assistant.
In addition, three current coaches will have elevated roles for the 2017 season. Nate Byham will serve as the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator, Keith Dudzinski will be the assistant head coach and work with safeties plus Dave Plungas will be the outside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Hurley has served as a college football coach nearly every year since since 2004, recently serving at Robert Morris and also at Duquesne, focusing on the secondary. He helped coach both programs to a combined five conference titles and had 27 all-conference players. He played in the NFL from 1980-1985 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New Orleans Saints and the Buffalo Bills and was a former All-American at Syracuse.
Gattuso on Hurley: “Bill is a close friend who coached for me at Duquesne in the past. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff. He also has strong ties to Central and western NY from growing up in The Buffalo area and his days as a star QB at Syracuse.”
Fiacchi, a three-year team captain and former academic All-American, returns to his alma mater after being a quarterbacks coach and video coordinator at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. He helped a quarterback and running back earn all-conference honors at St. John Fisher and formerly was a student assistant with UAlbany in 2015.
Gattuso on Fiacchi: “I am very pleased to add a former Great Dane star to our staff. Will had an outstanding career as a player here and knows our system and what we are trying to build.”
Nesselt comes to UAlbany from Holy Cross after stops at Maryland, Ferrum College and UMass. The former UMass defensive lineman has worked with linebackers as a coach and was a former interim defensive coordinator at Ferrum. He has also worked with video coordination and strength and conditioning programs.
Gattuso on Nesselt: “Bill is a student of the game that brings an incredible work ethic to our defensive staff. I've been very impressed with him since he has joined our staff.”
