ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second time in four weeks this season, UAlbany libero Nicole Otero has been selected as the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week.

UAlbany has earned an America East weekly honor each of the first four weeks of the 2016 season, the only volleyball program that can claim such a feat.

Otero has both of UAlbany’s defensive specialist honors this season and eight total in her collegiate career.

The sophomore libero helped UAlbany earn the Army Invitational championship with victories over UConn, St. John’s and Army West Point over the weekend.  She earned a place on the All-Tournament Team for her performance.

In the three matches, Otero tallied 79 digs, averaging 6.08 per set played, six service aces and 14 assists.  She earned a career-high 40 digs in the win over Army, adding six assists, and tied a career-high four aces in the win over St. John’s, adding 19 digs.

Otero and the Great Danes begin conference play this week, heading to Vestal to take on Binghamton on Friday, September 23rd at 7 p.m.
