Sacks, Savino Earn All-Conference Honors
LOWELL, Mass.— Announced by the America East Conference office Tuesday evening at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., the University at Albany baseball team were awarded with two all-conference honorees. Redshirt junior Kyle Sacks was named to the second time and freshman Dominic Savino was picked to the all-rookie team.
Sacks, a native of Clifton Park, N.Y., put together a solid first year for the Great Danes. The starting right fielder, has played in all 49 games UAlbany has played this year, while batting .320 with 32 runs scored, 28 RBI’s and two homeruns. He also has a .423 slugging percentage and nine stolen bases, as well as a .982 fielding percentage.
Savino, hailing from Smithtown, N.Y., was the Danes main closer for the 2016 campaign. The right hand pitcher appeared in 18 games this spring and collected eight saves, which puts him at third for saves in a season in the UAlbany record book. Savino has a team low ERA of 2.04 and has totaled 23 strikeouts in 35.1 innings pitched.
Sacks, Savino and the rest of the University at Albany baseball team take on UMBC in first round action of the America East tournament beginning Wednesday at noon at LeLacheur Park.
