Josh Pickard Promoted to Associate Head Coach of UAlbany Volleyball
Pickard has hired as the team’s first assistant for the 2015 season and will enter his second year with the Great Danes. In Pickard’s first year at UAlbany, he helped the Great Danes win a share of the 2015 America East regular season title and earn a place in the conference title match. UAlbany went 17-9 overall, its winningest season since 2011, with an 11-1 conference record.
“I want to thank MJ Engstrom and the entire Great Dane Athletic Department for this opportunity,” said Pickard. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at UAlbany and I am excited about what the future holds for Great Dane Volleyball.”
“I am pleased that Josh will remain on our staff in our new position of associate head coach,” said Engstrom. “For UAlbany volleyball to make the next step I felt we needed to have another highly experienced coach on staff. We have found a perfect fit in Josh Pickard. He is passionate about volleyball, a great recruiter, and I believe he is one of the top in the country at training skills. He will coordinate our defensive strategy and oversee the academic side of things.”
He previously was the recruiting and defensive coordinator for Montana State for three years and an assistant coach at Ohio University before that.
Pickard served as a travel coordinator and a national team coach at the Premier Volleyball Academy in Ohio from January 2007 to August 2011. He played on the men’s volleyball team at Michigan State, graduating in 2002 with a B.A. in international relations.
