Emily White Scores Twice to Lead Field Hockey Past Lafayette 4-2
EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore Emily White scored two goals in the first half to secure a 4-2 win for UAlbany (7-0) against Lafayette (2-4) on Friday night.
“I think it was good adversity for us,” said head coach Phil Sykes. “Lafayette is a good team that’s fast, physical and experienced with winning. We played well and took care of our chances. They put on some pressure late, but we showed good character to put the game away.”
White scored the first goal of the game on an end line tip from Paula Heuser in the 19th minute. Lafayette responded less than 10 minutes later with a cross through the circle to Hanna Sotiropoulos.
Senior Corrine McConville is now 4-for-4 on penalty strokes after converting on a stroke in the 29th minute. The senior tallied her fourth goal of the season.
UAlbany sophomore White struck again less than two minutes later on a pass from Daphne Voormolen. The forward has now tallied three goals this season. The Great Danes concluded the first half with a 3-1 lead.
Lafayette had one of its best scoring opportunities four minutes into the first half on a penalty stroke, but freshman goalkeeper Maxi Primus made the save.
Voormolen got into the goal-scoring action mid-way through the second half on a penalty corner inserted by Fiori Van Rijswijk. The Dutch duo connected on a penalty corner goal for the fourth time this season.
Lafayette scored in the final moments of the game off a penalty corner.
UAlbany continues its road trip at Lehigh on Sunday at 1 p.m.
