Kadeem Williams Named Preseason All-American By Phil Steele


CLEVELAND – Senior Kadeem Williams has been named a Preseason All-American by Phil Steele's College Football Preview. Williams, a 6-7, 310-pound offensive lineman was selected to the offense’s third-team by the magazine.

The Jersey City native is a two-time first-team All-Northeast Conference award winner as well as a 2012 College Sports Madness second-team All-America honoree. Last season, Williams helped UAlbany to the league’s top-ranked scoring offense (34.1), and limited opponent sacks to just 1.45 per game, starting all 11 games at left tackle.

Williams was also named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s first team by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, while kickoff return specialist Kevin Chillis and defensive back Justinian Mason were named to the third team.

Chillis was a two-time Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week last season, and ranked second on the team with 901 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns. The incoming senior made 11 kickoff returns, averaging 27.5 yards per return, including a 79-yard touchdown scamper against Central Connecticut State.

Mason, a senior from Mason, Ohio, started all 11 games at safety in 2012 and earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors once. He ranked fifth on the team with 46 tackles, including 35 solo, and picked off three passes, running them back for 99 yards and one touchdown.

UAlbany kicks off the fall slate Aug. 31st at Duquesne. The Danes’ open their brand new 8,500 seat stadium – Bob Ford Field – Sept. 14th at 7:00 p.m. versus Rhode Island.
